Role Description The purpose of this position is to coordinate, train, and prepare Public Safety Telecommunicators to become licensed through the state, support licensed Telecommunicators in meeting continuing education training mandates, and enhance certifications. This is accomplished by: • Teaching Public Safety related courses • Developing course content • Facilitating group discussions • Attending in-service training This position is responsible for: • Developing the training schedule • Maintaining the learning management system by creating a course catalog, loading course information, and monitoring registrations • Identifying, recruiting, and evaluating contract instructors • Managing the training budget • Assisting other 9-1-1 personnel as needed • Overseeing the agency’s Contract Training Provider Agreement with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) The Training Coordinator may supervise the work of others while working under minimal supervision and with extensive latitude for initiative and independent judgment. Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in the Public Safety-related field, Public Administration, or Education, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience • Six (6) years’ experience as a telecommunicator • Valid TCOLE Basic Instructor certification (must be obtained within one (1) year of assignment) or an equivalent teaching certification • Two (2) years of teaching experience on 9-1-1 related courses preferred • Possesses a Texas Telecommunicator License within one (1) year of employment Requirements • Working knowledge of emergency communications center training practices, methods, content, standards, statutory and regulatory requirements, and educational developmental practices • Working knowledge of 9-1-1 operational procedures and practices and equipment utilized in emergency communications centers • Basic knowledge of adult learning theory as it applies in a learning environment • Basic knowledge of curriculum development, instructional and educational goals, and testing instruments • Basic knowledge in oversight and evaluation of adults • Proficient knowledge of customer service and problem-solving • Basic knowledge of interacting with certification, licensing, and credentialing authorities • Ability to observe, analyze, and assess results against established goals • Basic knowledge of applying, implementing, and maintaining established and compliance guidelines • Ability to document progress and performance in official reporting processes • Basic knowledge of state and federal requirements pertinent to 9-1-1 operations and training • Basic knowledge of programs and processes of the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) • Working knowledge of office terminology, procedures, and equipment • Shows strong customer service focus and team approach to the work • Good interpersonal communication skills, including verbal and written writing skills • Basic knowledge and experience with budget preparation and administration • Demonstrates excellent time management, organizational, and multi-tasking skills • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software • Basic knowledge of the internet and enterprise web tools • Basic knowledge of working with an online Learning Management System (LMS) • Basic knowledge of audio-visual systems and programs • Basic knowledge of instructional presentation systems and programs • Basic knowledge of local geography and local 9-1-1 agencies Benefits • Must have the ability to observe details at close range and communicate information • Extensive use of computers, keyboards, and any necessary technical equipment • Prolonged periods (e.g., 3 hours or more) sitting or standing in a classroom setting • Ability to stretch, reach, or lift objects or materials that may be up to 20 pounds in weight • Ability to travel between fieldwork locations • Ability to travel and partake in company/industry-wide events such as training, seminars, and conferences • Possesses a current valid driver’s license and the ability to operate a motor vehicle Apply tot his job
