Digital Accessibility Specialist Intern - Information Technology Div.

The Texas Department of Transportation is seeking a detail-oriented and mission-driven Digital Accessibility Specialist Intern in their Information Technology division. This role is critical in ensuring that all digital content, platforms, and services are fully accessible to individuals with disabilities while maintaining compliance with relevant accessibility guidelines. Responsibilities Conduct manual and automated accessibility audits of websites, applications, and digital documents Evaluate conformance with WCAG 2.1/2.2, Section 508, and ADA Title II requirements Use tools such as SiteImprove, WAVE, NVDA, VoiceOver, and others for testing Create and maintain VPATs (Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates) and Accessibility Conformance Reports (ACRs) Document findings and remediation recommendations in alignment with VADSIR (Voluntary Accessibility Document Submission and Issue Resolution) processes Support procurement and vendor accessibility documentation reviews Remediate digital documents (PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) to meet accessibility standards Collaborate with content creators, developers, and designers to implement accessibility best practices Skills Must be a student in high school or other educational institution or accepted into a college, university or educational institution Must be at least 16 years of age, a student currently enrolled in high school or any institution of higher education to include a trade/vocational school Employees at least 18 years of age with valid driver's license may be assigned driving duties and may use power tools IAAP CPACC or WAS certification Experience with accessibility in mobile apps and multimedia Knowledge of legal and regulatory frameworks related to accessibility Experience working with government or educational institutions Benefits Retirement Plans Alternative and/or Flexible Work Schedules Paid Leave and Holidays Health Premiums paid at 100% for Full-Time Employees On-the-Job Training Tuition Assistance Program Holistic Wellness Program with Leave Incentives Career Development and Advancement Opportunities Family-Friendly Policies and Programs Company Overview Texas Department of Transportation maintains 80,000 miles of road for supporting aviation, rail, and public transportation.
